Intel chip hacks – Meltdown and Spectre – What do I do now?

The big news this week regarding information security is all about security flaws with Intel processors – specifically named Meltdown and Spectre.  Based on countless articles across the web, there is nothing an individual can do to secure their computer.   The major players in the industry – Microsoft, Google, etc., have rolled out some fixes or will be in the very near future.  Some of the other fixes needed are more complicated and it could take some time before those vulnerabilities are addressed.   Forbes has published and is regularly updating a list of what fixes tech companies are rolling out.

Is there anything else that can be done to protect your company’s data?  Maybe.  One thing you can do is try to prevent hackers from accessing the computers on your network.  How?  Make sure all your users have taken current Information Security Awareness Training.   Ensuring your users can recognize and are prepared to deal with PHISHING and RANSOMWARE attacks may help with this issue, but can also help with any future hacking attacks.
